Mountain Light Sanctuary

35 minutes northeast of downtown Asheville

You may lose cell/GPS service once you leave the interstate, so please save these directions.

From Asheville, take I-240 West to US 19-23 North/I-26 West toward Weaverville. Follow this highway for just over 12 miles. Take exit 15 for NC 197, Jupiter/Barnardsville.

Turn right onto NC 197 toward Barnardsville. Go 6 miles, and just after passing the post office on the left, turn right onto Dillingham Road. It’s about 6 miles to the National Forest from here; stay on Dillingham Road the whole way. Dillingham Road has three roads that come into it along the way, so here are some landmarks that may be helpful.

Once you turn on Dillingham Road and go 2.2 miles, the road bears a strong left (another road comes in directly in front). Then go another 1.5 miles and the road bears another strong left (Stoney Brook road comes in from the right). After the second strong left, you go 1/3 mile and the road bears a strong right.  Continue on this for one mile, until you cross a very small bridge, leaving the pavement and entering the national forest.

Go .3 mile, and just after a pull off area on the right, turn right, crossing the creek. You will be passing Corner Rock Picnic Area (unmarked) on your left. Go another .3  mile, and just before an old wooden bridge, there will be a parking on the right. Your guide will meet you there. If the parking area is full and you have to park along the road, be sure not to block traffic.
