IF YOU USE GPS, MAKE SURE IT GOES TO THIS LOCATION.
Also make sure you have enough time to get there.
Our outing will be at Shope Creek in Pisgah National Forest, about 30 minutes east of downtown Asheville. Do not rely on your GPS until you make sure it matches these directions or you will very likely get lost. Also keep in mind that once you leave the interstate, you will probably NOT have cell phone signal. You may not have GPS reception either. So make sure you print or save these directions beforehand and follow them precisely.
These directions are from central Asheville, specifically, from Greenlife Grocery (our local Whole Foods). We recommend buying snacks or even a picnic lunch for after the tour, as well as “using the facilities” while you’re there.
Finally, remember that if you’re planning to bring some of our “catch of the day” to one of our partner restaurants, you MUST make a special reservation (see here).
485 Shope Creek Road
From Greenlife Grocery, head south on Merrimon towards Orange Street for .2 miles. Turn left to merge onto I-240E/US-70E. In 2.1 miles, Take exit 7 for US-70. Keep left at the fork, then turn left for Tunnel Road/70E. Drive 2 miles on 70E, and at the light at the McDonalds and CVS, take a left onto Riceville Road.
Follow Riceville Road for 3.7 miles, then turn left onto Bull Creek Road. In just a few yards, fork right onto Shope Creek Road and take that 2.3 miles to the end. Continue into the woods, past all the “private property” signs, across the waterway (yes, through the water), and in about 500 feet, arrive at the parking area on the left.
