Highland Lake Inn
IF YOU USE GPS, MAKE SURE IT GOES TO THIS LOCATION.
Also make sure you have enough time to get there.
Our outing will be at Highland Lake Inn in Flat Rock, about a half hour south of downtown Asheville. Do not rely on your GPS until you make sure it matches these directions or you will very likely get lost. Also keep in mind that once you leave the interstate, you will probably NOT have cell phone signal. You may not have GPS reception either. So make sure you print or save these directions beforehand and follow them precisely.
These directions are from central Asheville, specifically, from Greenlife Grocery (our local Whole Foods). We recommend bringing or buying snacks or even a picnic lunch for after the tour, as well as “using the facilities” while you’re there. There will be a bathroom available on site. There is also swimming, so bring a bathing suit if you’re interested.
Finally, remember that if you’re planning to bring some of our “catch of the day” to one of our partner restaurants, you MUST make a special reservation (see here).
86 Lily Pad Ln, Flat Rock, NC 28731
From Greenlife Grocery, head south on Merrimon Ave toward Orange Street. Take the ramp to I-240W/US70W. In 1.5 miles, keep right at the fork to continue on I-26E for 25 miles.
Take exit 53 for Upward Road toward Hendersonville. Turn right onto Upward Road. In 1.3 miles, continue straight onto North Highland Lake Road. In .7 miles, slow down and signal left, and at .8 miles, right after a curve, take a sharp, sudden, and dangerous left onto Lily Pad Lane (and you thought foraging was dangerous…).
At .1 mile (see property map below), the paved road continues to the left (towards the Inn). In another .1 mile, turn left, following signs towards the Inn. In .1 again, stay right, and finally, in another .1 mile, turn right into the parking lot for Grand Old Hall. Your guide will meet you in the parking lot.
