Laughing Frog Estate

Also make sure you have enough time to get there.

Our outing will be at Laughing Frog Estate in Marshall, about 35 minutes north of downtown Asheville; see directions and Google map below. Please do not rely on your GPS until you make sure it matches these directions or you will very likely get lost.  Also keep in mind that once you leave the interstate, you will probably NOT have cell phone signal. You may not have GPS reception either. So make sure you print or save these directions beforehand and follow them precisely.

These directions are from central Asheville, specifically, from Greenlife Grocery (our local Whole Foods). We recommend buying snacks or even a picnic lunch for after the tour, as well as “using the facilities” while you’re there. There will also be a bathroom available on site.

Finally, remember that if you’re planning to bring some of our “catch of the day” to one of our partner restaurants, you MUST make a special reservation (see here). See you in the woods!

Head south on Merrimon Avenue towards downtown for a tenth of a mile and take the ramp for 240W. In less than a mile, take exit 4A for US 23N/US 19N/I-26W towards Weaverville/Woodfin.

For a more scenic drive that’s only about ten minutes longer, you can take River Road (251). For that route, take 19/23 North (I-26 West) to exit 24: Woodfin. Go left, over the highway, and continue a couple miles to T at Riverside Business Park. Take a right to head north along the river. In about ten minutes, the road will run into 25/70. Take a left, and when you pass the Ingles in 2.3 miles, skip the next paragraph and continue following the directions.

For the faster drive, continue on I-26 West for a total of 6.3 miles and take exit 19A to merge onto US 25N/70W/Weaver Blvd toward Marshall. In about 12 miles, watch for an Ingles supermarket on your right.

After passing the Ingles, continue 2.5 miles and at the light, turn right onto Upper Brush Creek Road. At  1.1 miles, after passing Rice Rd on the left, turn right at the sign for Upper Brush Creek Road. In .8 mile, bear right onto Laughing Frog Lane. There will be a red mailbox and a barn on the left.

Go through a gate just before a house on the right, then, at .5 mile, you’ll go through another gate and the driveway will turn to pavement. Continue another .5 mile, past the greenhouse on the right and the caretaker cabin on the left, on up to the house.

Park up at the house. Don’t worry about blocking cars in. If needed, just below the house, there is additional parking at the tennis court.
