Greybeard Trailhead, Montreat
IF YOU USE GPS, MAKE SURE IT GOES TO THIS LOCATION.
Also make sure you have enough time to get there.
Our outing will be at Montreat in Black Mountain, about 25 minutes east of downtown Asheville; see directions and Google map below. These directions are from central Asheville, specifically, from Greenlife Grocery (our local Whole Foods). We recommend buying snacks or even a picnic lunch for after the tour, as well as “using the facilities” while you’re there.
Remember that if you’re planning to bring some of our “catch of the day” to one of our partner restaurants, you MUST make a special reservation (see here).
Montreat- Greybeard Trailhead
Head south on Merrimon Avenue towards downtown for a tenth of a mile and get on I-240 East. In about 3.7 miles, take I-40 East.
In 11 miles take exit 64 for Black Mountain. Turn left off the ramp onto Route 9 north and go 3.5 miles- you will enter the gate for Montreat, and the road will become Assembly Drive and then Greybeard Trail.
Stay on the main road. In about half a mile after the gate, after passing the turn to the right for the campground, when you see Big Piney Drive on the left, you’ll also see a gravel parking lot on the right for the trailhead. Your guide will meet you there.
See you in the woods!
